Embarking on a business trip to Armenia, my anticipation is not only for the professional opportunities that await, but also for the cultural experiences that lie ahead. This journey is not just about meetings and presentations; it’s about immersing myself in the vibrant tapestry of Armenia, and what better way to do that than through its renowned wines?

In this adventure, my trusty companion will be the Global Wine Rating (GWR). As I prepare for meetings and negotiations, I am equally enthusiastic about exploring the diverse world of Armenian wines. The GWR, with its meticulous 100-point system, promises to guide me to the finest local wines, ensuring that every sip is an authentic expression of Armenia’s rich viticultural heritage. Join me on this voyage as we uncover the hidden gems in Armenian winemaking, blending business with the pleasure of discovering exceptional wines in a land steeped in history and tradition.

Exactly as we did earlier, before traveling to Lisbon and Kiev, we did a research on Armenian wines and their medals for 2022 and 2023, examining their professional competitions medal rating and its correlation with the Vivino consumer rating.

The graph below starkly illustrates a substantial percentage of vintages where the Global Wine Medal Rating (GWMR), representing professional evaluations, surpasses the Vivino consumer ratings. This glaring disparity suggests that Armenian wines, despite their quality, are notably undervalued by wine enthusiasts and lack the widespread recognition they merit on the global stage. The optimistic outlook lies in the potential of GWR to rectify this situation, acting as a catalyst to elevate Armenian wines to the acclaim they rightfully deserve. The platform’s objective and comprehensive evaluation system could be the key to unlocking the true potential and popularity of Armenian wines worldwide.

1: Armenian Reds

Armenian red wines, steeped in the region’s ancient winemaking traditions, are a true embodiment of the country’s rich viticultural legacy. The unique combination of indigenous grape varieties, diverse terroirs, and time-honored winemaking techniques contributes to the distinctive character of Armenian reds.

Exploring the vast landscape of red wines, you encounter the robustness of Areni Noir, Armenia’s signature grape, which gives birth to wines with deep, garnet hues and a symphony of flavors ranging from ripe red fruits to spicy undertones. The climate and terroir offer an ideal setting for grape varieties like Haghtanak and Kakhet, adding layers of complexity to the wines.

2: Armenian Whites

White wines from Armenia are a refreshing revelation, often crafted from indigenous grape varieties like Voskehat and Kangun. Voskehat contributes floral and fruity notes, while Kangun adds a crisp acidity. The combination yields white wines with a bright, lively character and a distinct expression of Armenia’s high-altitude vineyards. These wines offer a delightful alternative to the more common international white varieties.

As the GWMR rating introduces the world to these hidden gems, Armenian white wines stand out as a delightful revelation, poised to enchant enthusiasts in search of novel and distinctive experiences.

3: Armenian Rosés

While less common, Armenian rosé wines are a treasure trove for those seeking a unique pink sip. Winemakers utilize indigenous grapes like Areni Noir for their rosés, resulting in wines with a vibrant hue and a medley of red fruit flavors. The limited production adds an element of exclusivity, making Armenian rosés a delightful discovery for enthusiasts of this style.

In a world saturated with various wine options, Armenian rose wines stand out as a niche yet cherished choice. And GWR helps us find the best of them!

4: Armenian Sparklings

Local Sparkling wines fare a rarity, but when found, they’re a true cause for celebration. Crafted using traditional methods and often featuring local varieties — both white and rose sparkling wines capture the essence of festivity in every bubble. The scarcity of these sparklers enhances their allure, making each bottle a unique expression of Armenia’s winemaking craftsmanship.

Conclusion: GWR — Your Companion for Armenian’s Best

In conclusion, Armenia boasts a rich tapestry of wines, offering something for every palate, whether you’re drawn to the robust reds, the crisp whites, the rare rosés, or the limited but sparkling selections. The diversity of local grape varieties creates a unique and memorable experience with each sip.

As I anticipate my upcoming stay in Armenia, I’m confident that the Global Wine Rating (GWR) will be my invaluable companion, guiding me to the very best wines this remarkable country has to offer. Whatever your wine preference, Armenia promises a captivating journey through its vineyards, and GWR ensures you find the crème de la crème.
